We booked the Malfroy sight unseen for Easter 2014, so we're delighted to find a true oasis so close to the centre of Rotorua. With so many Hotels, Motels and B&B's to choose from it is difficult to know where to start with this city.
The Malfroy is a quiet, elegantly decorated Motor Lodge, with modern clean facilities, wonderful gardens, and it's own mineral hot spring pools. Being very close to the centre of Rotorua, it is close to all the attractions Rotorua has to offer, yet you can relax in the delightful rooms which open out into your own courtyard style garden area.
The owners Mairi and Ron cannot do enough for you, are very welcoming, with a wealth of knowledge and those important contacts at the best attractions.

We will stay here again when we visit New Zealand. In a word excellent!

Great Attractions in Rotorua

All these attractions below are within 15 km of MALFROY motor lodge, located at 51 Malfroy Road, Rotorua.

Below is the Kiwi Experience bus on its top at Redwoods - the famous Whakarewarewa forest with thousands of tall redwoods enveloping the area. This is a great place for MTB, walking and jogging. A family friendly destination as well. Giftshops and food stalls are available just in case you get hungry after going on one of its tracks.

The green and blue lakes are next to each other. This attraction is 10 minutes drive from the Redwoods.
There is an elevated area that tourists can stop by and see the 2 lakes side by side - one is blue and one is emerald green.

Lake Rotokakahi or Green Lake Named for its abundance of kakahi (freshwater mussels),[2] it flows to Lake Tarawera via the Te Wairoa waterfalls. From the air the lake looks emerald green due to its shallow, sandy bottom.

The Hamurana Springs below is a sight to remember.Pristine spring waters that just amaze every tourist who visit. The springs are also surrounded by magnificent Redwoods and located next to a golf course.

Plan Well for Your Rotorua Holiday!

To ensure a great holiday, it's important to have an itinerary to make the most value for your money.
Here are a few notes and tips we would like to share with our guests and tourists in Rotorua in general:

1. Have Adequate Protection

a. Travel insurance is highly recommended. It's important especially for overseas travelers.

b. Sunscreen - skin cancer is on the rise. But it can be prevented. Even if the skies are cloudy, it doesn't mean that UV rays are not penetrating through the clouds. Make sure to always take UV SPF 30-50 lotions with you. Much of New Zealand travel is outdoors.

c. Clothing - bring clothes for 3 seasons! NZ is famous for 15-20 degree temperature variations during the day! A great way to keep warm is to use layers. Just strip off each layer as long as there is continuous sunshine. And layer up as the wind chill increases.

2. Research in terms of Accommodation pricing, packages and location

a. Accommodation - choose motels with large rooms where kids can roam about. It's important to have parking within the premises and some area where children can play. MALFROY has a children's playground next to the owner's lodge equipped with swings and slides. Researching accommodation helps in getting good rates too. By knowing the average pricing of accommodation in a certain location, mums and dads can make comparisons among several key considerations: location, amenities, price, facilities and user reviews.

b. Transportation - booking flights or rental cars ahead makes sense especially during peak seasons. The closer you get to the date, the more you have to pay. This is generally the trend on online booking systems.

c. Food - gather a list of cafes and restaurants in an area and look up reviews about their food and pricing. Planning food choices even before arriving to your destination prevents over spending on food that's not worth the price you paid.

3. Bring memories home
